
The Outpost That Forgot to Die
I didn’t really know what to expect when I turned onto the gravel path. But the moment I stepped out of the car, I felt it – that strange silence. Not peaceful, but heavy. As if the place was holding its breath. It honestly felt like I had stepped into The Walking Dead. You know, one of those forgotten settlements where everything’s still standing like people just fled – but no one’s left. Rusted barrels lay toppled over, shipping containers stacked like makeshift walls. Someone had built a life here. Out of scrap. Out of desperation. Time, Parked – A Journey Through the Car Cemetery of Båstnäs
There are places where time no longer moves in a straight line. Where it instead rusts slowly, melts into foliage and clover, and whispers through cracked windshields. The car cemetery of Båstnäs is one such place. Here, hundreds of cars from the 1940s to the 1970s have come to a permanent halt. But they’re not asleep. They dream. I visited Båstnäs on a summer day, the air thick with humidity and green life. With a camera in hand, I let the images become something more than documentation. Through double exposure and ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), I tried to capture what cannot be seen: how nature doesn’t just reclaim, but embraces. How metal and moss blend into a language where rust carries soul.
